Liquid diets, prepackaged food delivery and what else. . .

Let me start by saying that I have never used Medifast. I lost all my weight by changing the way I ate and using moderate exercise. No surgery, no pills, no fasting and no prepackaged foods.

I am so sad when I learn of yet another person who lost their weight on their doctor-prescribed Medifast diet has gained back their weight. I am frustrated for them because when they go back to their doctor the doctor has no answer for them - except to sell them more product.

These diet systems are not how you will eat for life and what is the point of losing the weight if you cannot keep the pounds off? I do not mean to get on my soap box but I am so frustrated by the despair of yet another person who thought the answer was in a commercial product. You can get results with these products to be sure - but if the FINAL result is that you go back to where you were . . .

Do not assume that people who keep their weight under control with rigorous exercise of 2+ hours a day are immune. People who use this method struggle mightily when something causes a change in their workouts such as a broken leg or an extended illness.

You can lose the weight by changing the way you eat real food and changing your physical activity little by little. I do not run - I cannot jog with my knees. I do not work out for hours a day. I do not pay someone else to send me food. I do not pay someone to weigh me. If I can succeed YOU can succeed and keep the pounds off.

Another way to look at it is financially. If you needed to cut back on your budget and you could no longer afford Medifast or whatever system you are enrolled in - what will happen to you? Will you give up and chalk it up to the economy when you gain weight again. Will you lash out at your situation with anger and frustration and eventually damage yourself with food - again?

I do not have all the answers but I know that today I am 213 pounds lighter than I was before and I am keeping the pounds off. Whereas people I know who have had surgery and Medifast and other weight loss systems are all in various stages of gaining their weight back.

I am going to keep doing what I have been doing. What are you doing today that is keeping the pounds off? Is there anyway I can support your efforts? I would love to hear from you.

I think a big part of the long term failure of the packaged food plans is the fact that these people never changed their taste buds. the packaged foods are designed to similate the too good to be true, not real food taste. And that is what the person stays hooked on. they are still trying to get the 'taste'. If you read the meal/food logs of these people, on a daily basis, there is almost no real food. but they do not appear to see this. I seem them refer to it as 'food' and I hear them talk about how they are eating 'healthy'.

I agree, this loop is very hard to watch. I am sure there are some who do succeed. But they are few and far between in the percentages. And I personally, can't watch, it is a slow motion train wreck.
