TGIF: Thank God It's Food!

I am in meetings all day today and tomorrow and most of Sunday but I wanted to give you quick update! In this age of terrorism and concerns about unattended bags being found in public places such as airports; and in the fears of things that go BOOM making it past security and getting on to a plane, you have to be grateful for the small things.
Yesterday I flew from Florida to Raleigh, NC with  most of my perishable foods in an insulated Whole Foods lunch bag, in lovely little plastic containers. I froze my cooked cereal (which filled a 2 pound Pollly-o Ricotta container), I had two cold packs in there too, keeping a yogurt, Kale/Chicken soup, cooked salmon, buckwheat and black berries all cold. In my carry on I had fresh vegetables, whole and uncut plus fresh fruits and a couple of Quest Protein bars.

When we arrived at Embassy suites I immediately went to get my bag out of the suitcase to put my foods in the fridge and eat my lunch. When I opened the suitcase I could smell the delicious soup. Why? Because two containers exploded and I had chicken and kale soup (thank you to Vickie for excellent recipe) and yogurt covering everything in the bag! Luckily, all was not lost. The solids in the soup were completely fine - I only lost the delicious broth. The yogurt was a mess but about 1/3 of it was still fine and I could supplement it with the protein bar. Everything else could be rinsed off the saved.

In these days of things that go BOOM, I am very grateful happy to save Thank God it's food that exploded on my flight. I am still have my meals and no clothing was harmed in the suitcase. How lucky can a girl get?

Wow! Food so good it explodes out of its container. Good for you for taking the good stuff along with you.

Yikes. We had shampoo explode in the back of the car just going up and down mountains. That was years ago and I still can't stand the smell of Dove shampoo. Hope your meetings are great!

that is very interesting.

I thought luggage compartments are pressurized because they put crated animals in there with the luggage (I think).

I wonder if stuff is in zip locked bags with ALL the air squished out if they would have been okay (assuming you had them in containers where there would have been a little air at the top).

glad you like the soup recipe; it is one of my favorites

Wow. Dodged a bullet with the soup! I always like to toss a lotion in right at the last so I will have a surprise when I open my bag. Miraculously every item I secure in ziploc keeps inside its rightful container.

Darn Murphy.
