A Plug For Morning Sweat

I exercise first thing in the morning for three reasons:
  1. It pumps up my metabolism all day.
  2. It elevates my mood naturally - right from the start of the day.
  3. No day of excuses behind me, leading me to a poor effort
When I have to work earlier, I get up earlier and workout whenever possible. If I do not have a workout kind of day, I have to let it go and not obsess over it. If I have that kind of day more than twice in a week, I need to examine my day and see if I am making excuses where there should be fat burning. Keeping the pounds off does not happen on the sofa. At least, not on my sofa.

If you are committed to your exercise plan, what is your most effective time of day for sweat?

If you are not committed to your exercise plan, why not??

Good for you! I really wish I was a morning exerciser. I'm a night owl, and usually can't make myself give up that extra hour of sleep in the morning. But, on the rare occasion I do work out in the morning I feel so great all day. Although, the benefit of working out late at night is that the gym is usually empty.

Morning too. Makes a huge difference. And if I leave it for later in the day, I am challenging fate, something always happens.

I absolutely prefer to work out in the morning, as early as possible. It just makes the day start better and I agree with the three reasons you listed, Jane. I used to have a different sort of schedule that allowed me to get to the kickboxing gym at night -- so I'd do cardio and weights in the morning, and go to a kickboxing or jiu jitsu class in the evening...those were the days! On the rare days I haven't been able to get my sweat on first thing, I feel "off" in my head, and physically, all day until I can get my workout in. I can't imagine life without it and I would never voluntarily take a week off (on a rare family vacation a few years ago, my travel agent's instructions from me were "whichever hotel has the best gym") and I have enough equipment at home that I have no excuse (weather, no car, no time) not to get in at least 30 minutes of SOMETHING ...EVERY day. Non negotiable ME time.

I just found your blog today - WOW - thank you for the words of wisdom and the honesty. I'm on my own weight loss journey (75 pounds down, 25 to go) and know what you mean about the fear of backsliding into old habits.

Good day to you...

Well, my fitness plan is more random than yours since I will rebel if I try to force things. And now, being hobbled... Sigh. But I have found the hobbling has made me a freak about wanting to exercise. So I do what I can - obv. no aerobics, but I do my arms and abs and limp around the garden for fresh air and attitude. If I don't get fresh air my mood falls apart.

I love summertime when I can ride my bike to work. I'm not a morning person but getting up early to ride is refreshing and I arrive at work with half my workout done for the day. It also frees up my evenings for fun stuff!
