Saving The TaTas and Pumpkins

This is October and that means it is 
Beast Cancer Awareness Month. 
Save YOUR TaTas and 
get a mammogram. 

I am going to take my own 
public service announcement to heart 
and make my appointment today.

October is also Pumpkin Abuse Awareness Month. This wonderful vegetable, great roasted with a touch of pepper, salt and EVOO, is instead drenched with brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, cream, ginger and nutmeg and made into sweet pies, ice cream, brulee, cookies, muffins and, (Great Pumpkin save us) - into lattes, frappes and artificial coffee creamers. 

It is not the pumpkin you taste in all these things. It is the seasonings and sweetening. I love the seasonings. I love 'pumpkin flavoring' everything but in all honesty, it is not the pumpkin I would be thinking about. It is the custard, the sugar the cream, the butter. . . .and the memories of past associations wit h that food. It is not always easy to give up a food I have lusted after for most of my life but today I make the choice to say no to pumpkin desserts.

The pumpkin is willing to give up its life for my nourishment. I will enjoy it roasted, without sugar, cream and pie crust. It really is good food without pie additives.

I saw pink pumpkins at the store today. Not painted pink, GROWN pink. A very fleshy color. Perfect for statues.

I am doing very well Vickie. Thank you for asking. In fact, I can honestly say I am doing better than I have in a couple of years (mentally). I finally dropped a rock and it is making all the difference.
