Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Without making this into a marketing history lesson:
Once upon a time there was a shampoo company. It wanted to double its sales. The company charged their employees to come up with an angle so the company could sell twice as much product to their consumers. The answer was one word added to the implicit instructions on each bottle on how to use the shampoo: Lather, rinse became Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

With the addition of one word (and one action on the part of the consumer), the company's sales doubled. Do you lather, rinse and repeat? Did you ever wonder why? Did you think it was because it was good for you and your hair? When the company did this, people didn't ask. They just did it.

I take the time to think how I can utilize this successful sales model to sell myself some additional wellness actions. I no longer replay the tapes that kept me repeating cycles of defeat. I am using repeat. No more Eat, hurt, repeat. No more Panic, eat, repeat. Enough Eat, blame, repeat.

Halt the negative and Repeat the positive:

Exercise, sweat, repeat.
Read label, weigh food, repeat.
Forgive, embrace, repeat.

What positive actions do you repeat? What do you do already that could use some repeating?

What a great post! Very clever concept. So true. I have a post coming up shortly (it is somewhere in the queue), about the concept of PAUSE. In other words thinking before we do it the first time, really thinking before we do it the second time. I suppose no automatic repeat until we are sure it IS a positive thing.

Heh - I didn't know that about shampoo marketing. I always lather twice, but then I have oily hair.;-)

But yeah, I love your positive spin on "repeat".
