Didn't your mother tell you never to take candy from strangers?

How oxymoronic is our society? We tell our children not to take candy from strangers and then we send them trick or treating and to actually ask strangers for candy.

Why did I only realize this once my children were in their twenties?

Did you ever eat your kids Halloween haul while they were sleeping?

I would say that I garnished their wages a bit re halloween candy, but I never took more than a piece or two. And yes, the irony of warning our children against strangers and then encouraging them to go out after dark (also usually discouraged)and knock on strangers doors (also frowned upon) and ask for stuff (from strangers bad, from someone you know you were supposed to wait until it was offered) has not escaped me.
